The English Football Association`s chiefs are eager to extend the contract to Gareth Southgate`s national team manager after the end of the Euro -2020. The former defender`s popularity has jumped immensely in the past two months during World Cup 2018, where England reached the semifinals. Southgate received a contract for four years in November 2016, after having found the quickest way to find a replacement for the compromised Sam Allardyce.
'Gareth is great and we want him to be at the head of the national team after 2020. I think we like him and he likes us but he`s on vacation so when he comes back, we will start negotiations!', said the FA Managing Director Martin Glenn. The 47-year-old Southgate, formerly manager of his beloved Middlesbrough and the youth national team, was compared to Joachim Loew, who led Germany after 2006. `Part of the problems of the English national team before that was that we did not stop searching for a Messiah!`, Glenn said. `Loew has had success with Germany because he has been left alone to build a job strategy. He was not a star in his country, but his system is working!', the CEO of the English headquarters added.
